Explosives & Firearms

INFORMATION FOR FILMMAKERS RE EXPLOSIVES AND FIREARMS:

Applications to obtain a permit for the use of explosives are accepted at the Hawai‘i State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Hawai‘i Occupational Safety and Health Division. Anyone handling explosive charges is required to have a pyrotechnics license such as the “Certificate of Fitness.” For safety reasons, the Fire Department, Police Department and Civil Defense should be notified ahead of time in case of an emergency.

Firearms can be brought in by a licensed propmaster and must be registered within 72 hours after arrival of the person or the firearm. State regulations require the propmaster to contact the Police Department of the county (island) where the firearms will be used. Please find additional information regarding the permit application process, clearance, mandatory documents, and payment of fees by calling the listed phone numbers on the following page.
